Negroni - Italian apertivo.
August 22, 2020
Negroni it has a characteristic bitter-sweet taste, with delicate, herbal notes. Probably because it belongs to the group cocktails from the aperitif group (incl. a pertivo) There is it is one of the most popular customs throughout Italy. Aperitif it is nothing but a drink before the main meal. Its purpose is to whet your appetite and then eat lunch or dinner. No way to drink without small snacks called in Italy spuntino, a Spain tapas .
History of the uprising this cocktail goes back to 1919 and Florence, Italy. Most likely then, in Caffe Casoni, was invented. Legend has it that Count Camillo Negroni asked his friend, the bartender Forsco Scarselli, to fortify his favorite cocktail - Americano - by replacing the water soda gin. Scarselli added an orange topping in place of the lemon you usually get with the Americano, and the drink took off. Soon everyone was coming to the bar on the "Negroni".
Camillo Negroni himself was an interesting character. At twenty, he traveled America and lived a cowboy life for a time. He also lived in London, which we like to think, due to the dominant gin scene, led him (perhaps inadvertently) to create one of the most iconic cocktails of all time.
The Negroni family, too, quickly benefited from the cocktail's success by establishing the Negroni Distillery in 1919 in Treviso, Italy, where they produced a ready-made version of the drink marketed as Antico Negroni. The distillery is open to this day and is owned by a new family.
