Did you know that the contents of your plate affect your psyche?

Surely you are familiar with the phrase "you are what you eat". Did you know that it dates from 1825  year? From the book "The Physiology of Taste" by Anthelme Brillat-Savarin.  It is light, funny and  a story full of anecdotes about culinary culture - an area in which the French have been leading the way for centuries.   "Tell me what you eat and I will tell you who you are" means that if you want to be healthy and feel great  you must eat good food.

Looking at today  a food market that's flooded with processed junk food, drive-through restaurants, artificial drinks, full of sugar, chemicals and extra  calories ... it should come as no surprise that many people are tired, overweight and have emotional problems.  There are tons of studies that show a strong correlation between what we eat and what we feel. Your food choices can have a huge impact on your mental health and overall health.

You are probably wondering how it connects?

It all starts in the brains  (  plural is not a mistake)  - you have them  two ! Of course, you have one brain in your head that  is the main control center for everything you think and do. But did you know there is a second "brain " in the belly? Both brains were made of the same tissue when they developed in the womb and are connected by a nerve.  This nerve (vagus nerve) that connects the brain to the gut allows them to communicate. It's common knowledge in the scientific world that gut bacteria use this nerve to send information to the brain.

What does this mean for you?

This means that your mental health is directly related to that of your gut! In other words, if it's health  Yours  your gut is being sabotaged by sugar, gluten, and other junk foods - then your mind will be too  felt their negative influence.  This is why  If you are trying to improve your mental health, it is absolutely imperative that you keep your gut healthy and therefore eat a healthy diet.

What and why should you avoid in your daily diet:

You are probably wondering if that means that  Your mental health depends on what you eat?

A huge amount of research shows that YES . What you eat is very important and the condition of yours  intestines  it directly affects how you feel (your mood) and how you function  cognitively  (Your brain).  Therefore, by improving your gut microbiology (using a healthy and balanced diet), you experience an improvement in your mood and brain function!

How to improve the condition  intestines?

  1. DO NOT EAT  TOXIC : Start by avoiding the above foods - there is no benefit to consuming them, so there's no reason to   pollute them  organism.

  2. Avoid processed foods and fast food .

  3. Include whole grains containing cereal products in your diet  a lot of fibers  food, i.e.  fiber that supports the work of the intestines. Fiber binds large amounts of water to prevent constipation. It also helps to maintain the proper pH in the intestine, inhibiting the growth of bacteria that contribute to flatulence. REMEMBER TO DRINK A LOT otherwise the fiber will cause constipation.

  4. Eat silage .  Cabbage and pickled cucumbers it  natural  probiotics - there are  source of lactic acid bacteria. These microorganisms  inhibit the growth of putrefactive bacteria in the intestine.  Cabbage and pickled cucumbers also regulate metabolism, facilitating the digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. They also contain B vitamins and vitamins C, A, E and K.

  5. If you are not allergic to dairy.  Include fermented milk drinks in your diet.  They are the source  lactic acid and probiotic microbes of the genus  Lactobacillus,  Bifidobacterium  and  Saccharomyces. In addition to improving the work of the intestines and regulating their flora, these microorganisms support the treatment of diseases such as intestinal inflammation, diarrhea and intimate infections. The sources of probiotic bacteria are, for example, yoghurts and kefirs.

  6. If you add to this  a bit of exercise -  it does not have to be intense exercise, just a walk - and you will drink approx. 2 liters of fluids a day (water, herbal teas, freshly squeezed juices), your intestines will receive everything they need for your well-being.
